A Life Saved

On this day, just after the 4th of July, I discharged a combat veteran who had faced childhood neglect, abuse, and personal trauma. He was a man grappling with profound grief over the loss of 8 close friends, including 7 fellow soldiers who had taken their own lives. Despite his own severe struggles and suicidal thoughts, he showed remarkable courage by seeking help and committing to his recovery for nearly three years. Today, he said, "I feel well. I feel like life is worth living. I feel joy, and have been able to do so for a while. Thank you"
As I fought back tears, I expressed my admiration for his courage and dedication, feeling truly grateful to hear him share about his life and happiness. I said, "Do you know what I see? I see a life saved, and a veteran at that! How grateful I am for that. And I know you will help others. We all must link hands to help those we can."
I may not be able to assist everyone who reaches out, but I strive to help as many as possible, and for that, I feel very thankful. I also appreciate the dedicated therapists I know who are making a significant impact and changing lives for the better. If you need healing or support, I encourage you to reach out to me or another caring, skilled therapist. There is help available.
